Introduction
The Border Collie is a medium sized dog that is 18-22 inches in length.
It looks muscular and it is known as a nimble worker.
The coat is medium-length and comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns.
The Border Collie is an intelligent, energetic, acrobatic and athletic dog.
Many dog owners compete with great success in the sports dog category.
It was developed between two countries; Scotland and England.
Traditionally, this dog breed is used to herd sheep on farms.
Breed
Well known as a sport dog, the Border Collie was bred in a region that borders both England and Scotland.
This breed likes to work with livestock and is very comfortable on farms and large tracts of land.
In 1995, it was registered by the American Kennel Club.
The color of this breed has many variations including red tricolor, black tricolor, white and brown.
Appearance
The Border Collie has a double coat with various textures and color patterns.
The Longer double coat is smooth fur. It has soft dark eyes, a solid body posture, and sharp teeth.
This is a friendly and gentle dog.
Border Collie can bark, especially if it is on livestock duty.
Nutrition
The proper nutrition for feeding Border Collies depends on the size, age, metabolism and activity level. It is recommended to provide feed formulated to medium-sized breeds. It is highly recommended to discuss your dog’s feed with your veterinarian and/or breeder in order to determine the size and frequency of meals in order to ensure a healthy, long life. It is also important to ensure that clean, fresh water is always available.
Grooming
Border Collies do not require too much grooming to maintain its fur. The fur is weather resistant because the coat is double layered and smooth.
Give weekly brushings to remove the dead fur and excess oil on his coat. This will help prevent matting or hair breakage.
You can bath the dog if he is dirty or smelly.
Check the ears by cleaning with a soft cloth. Never rub the ears, as you can hurt him.
Brush his teeth with a dog brusher two to three times a week.
Exercise
The Border Collie can learn faster than many other dog breeds. Daily exercise will stimulate them, burn off excess energy and maintain a happy dog.
Border Collies need 15-30 minutes of exercise every day. An example of this is taking a brisk walk with your Collie in the morning.
