Introduction

The Parson Russell Terrier is charming, friendly, and playful. It has strong hunting instincts. It is also called “Jack”, after its original breeder John Parson. This dog was bred to hunt small animals in the forest or backyard.

Breed

The Jack Russell Terrier is this breed's previous name before being changed with the American Kennel Club. It is a favorite dog of sportsman and hunters. This hunting dog was registered by AKC in 1997.

Appearance

The weight of this Terrier's body is approximately 13-17 pounds. The Parson Russell Terrier has a relatively larger body for its size with a sturdy build. Its head and chest are also relatively larger, with a flat skull.

Its smooth coat is easy to groom and it has dropped ears which form a V-shape. The Parson Russell Terrier has an average size between 13-14 inches high.

Nutrition

It is recommended to provide feed formulated to small-sized breeds. It is highly recommended to discuss your dog’s feed with your veterinarian and/or breeder in order to determine the size and frequency of meals in order to ensure a healthy, long life. It is also important to ensure that clean, fresh water is always available. Feed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Grooming

It is not difficult to maintain the Parson Russell Terrier. It has smooth hair and a wiry coat which has a harsh texture. Brush its teeth at least three times a week.

Daily brushing of its fur allows for excellent bonding while maintaining its coat. The occasional bath is required in order to keep it clean and healthy.

Consider going to a professional groomer every 6-8 weeks. Check its ears periodically to ensure they are clear of debris or wax buildup.

Exercise

The Parson Russell Terrier has a lot of energy to spend exercising. Taking daily walks will satisfy your Terrier. With good planning, shoot for between 30-45 minutes of daily physical activity outside the house.

You can also do some sports activities in your backyard. Another idea that the Jack Russell loves is spending time walking and exploring the forest.
